Biden Goes After RoboCalls

In Colorado yesterday, Joe Biden went on a tear blasting John McCain on his disgusting, sleazy, untrue robo-calls.

"If he's really serious when he said this morning on one of the shows, that this election is all about the economy, then I say, 'John, stop your ads. Bring down those robocalls.'"

"If it's about the economy, argue the economy.... John, stop these calls!"

Biden built his speech so that it climaxed with a chant of: "John, stop these calls!"

This is a really smart strategy for battling McCain's robo-slime. It reinforces the Obama campaign's chosen frame for the final month of the race: Anytime John McCain and his campaign surrogates steers the discussion away from real issues and towards Obama's bio or character, it's only because he's afraid to debate real issues like the economy, foriegn policy, health care, or energy. It's a great frame for the Obama Campaign and Obama, Biden, and their surrogates show no signs of losing this refrain.

Joe Biden: We All Love This Country

Sarah Palin put her foot in her mouth the other day when she declared that she loved to visit the "pro-America" areas of the country, of which North Carolina is one. Though she offered no word as to which states or areas were "anti-America".

Rules for Vice-Presidential Debate

Here's an explanation of the rules for tonight's Vice-Presidential debate between Joe Biden and Sara Palin.

The rules will be a lot like the Presidential debate we saw last week: One of the candidates will be asked a question and be given 90 seconds to respond -- 30 seconds less than the two minutes from the Presidential debate -- followed by a 90-second rebuttal for the other candidate, and then a free-flowing discussion on this between the two candidates. But it won't be quite the same.
The big twist here is that the rules were modified -- at the insistence of the McCain campaign -- to limit those back-and-forth exchanges to a mere two minutes, and not the five-minute periods that we saw at the Presidential debate.

This was widely seen as an accommodation for Sarah Palin, allowing her to retreat to sound-bites that can fill the time up rather than having to spontaneously take on Joe Biden on the merits of this or that issue.

Obama and Biden Give Speech to Thousands

26,000 Virginians showed up in the rain to see Senator's Barak Obama and Joe Biden in Fredricksburg, Virginia on Saturday evening. This is Fredricksburg, Virginia folks, this is not a big Democratic area in the state. This could mean Virginia is bluer than many have thought. It would be huge if Virginia goes for Obama. One of the more interesting side notes of last night's debate was that while Senator Biden was on CBS, CNN, NBC, MSNBC, and ABC, while Governor Palin was completely absent.
