Elizabeth Warren interview on CNN

Elizabeth Warren gave an interview to CNN on the state of the TARP and the Treasury Department's job of handling the bailout.

For those of you who don't remember, Ms. Warren was appointed by Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid to chair the five-member Congressional Oversight Panel created to oversee the implementation of the Emergency Economic Stabilization Act.

During the interview Ms. Warren stated categorically that the Treasury Department isn't tracking its bailout spending. Ms. Warren also laid out the intriguing idea of establishing a product safety commission for financial products, just as we have for toasters, car seats, and other consumer products.

Colin Powell On The GOP and Rush Limbaugh

Years ago the Republican party embraced anger, hatred, and divisiveness, which is why I stopped supporting them. They turned to leaders like Newt Gingrich and Tom Delay. They hired men like Lee Atwater and Karl Rove who ran on scare tactics, and dividing the electorate. The Conservatives built a message machine with the likes of Rush Limbaugh, Ann Coulter, and Glenn Beck; people who preach anger, hatred, and divisiveness, which became the overall tone of conservative talk radio, and Faux News.

The Republican party must stop "shouting at the world" and start listening to
minority groups if it is to win elections in the 21st century, former Secretary
of State Colin Powell said Thursday.

In an interview with CNN's Fareed Zakaria for Sunday's "GPS" program, President Bush's former secretary of state said his party's attempt "to use polarization for political advantage" backfired last month....

"I think the party has to stop shouting at the world and at the country,"Powell said.

"I think that the party has to take a hard look at itself, and I've talked to a number of leaders in recent weeks and they understand that." Powell, who says he still considers himself a Republican, said his party should also stop listening to conservative radio talk show host Rush Limbaugh.

"Can we continue to listen to Rush Limbaugh?" Powell asked. "Is this really the kind of party that we want to be when these kinds of spokespersons seem to appeal to our lesser instincts rather than our better instincts?"

Campbell Brown Rips McCain Aides

Campbell Brown has been a refreshing voice for CNN, and I believe has seen the success of Keith Olbermann at MSNBC and I think is taking some cue from that. She has been very vocal, and willing to offer some strong opinion. I think yesterday she had had enough of the attacks on Sarah Palin.

Since the election was called for Obama, former McCain staffers have been leaking embarrassing information about Governor Sarah Palin’s cluelessness on foreign policy and her unprofessional behavior. Top aide Steve Schmidt wouldn’t say whether Palin had been a good VP choice. Others have revealed more about her clothing purchases. Yesterday on CNN Campbell Brown came out hard and rebuked these aides, noting that these were the same people who supposedly vetted Governor Palin and trumpeted her candidacy:

BROWN: To those McCain aides who say she is the reason they lost this election… can I please remind you of one thing: you picked her. You are the ones who supposedly vetted her, and then told the American people she was qualified for the job. You are the ones who after meeting her a couple of times, told us she was ready to be just one heartbeat away from the Presidency. … If Sarah Palin is the reason some voters chose Barack Obama, that is no one’s fault but your own.

Colin Powell became visibly choked up this morning while talking about Obama's victory on CNN.
I think General Powell's endorsement was a big boost for Obama, and I think we saw real emotion from General Powell.

Rick Sanchez and Joe the Whiner

The end of the campaign, no matter the result, will finally allow us to put to bed "Joe the Tax Cheat, has no licence, now a foreign policy expert, plumber."

Man I am tired of this man.

He was on CNN today with Rich Sanchez to discuss taxes, which tells us a lot about the state of cable news. Mr. Joe Plumber explained how his "principles" teach him that rich people shouldn't have to pay their taxes, but poor people should. I think Rich Sanchez is sick of old Joe too, and he will have none of Joe's crap.

In a great bit of television good ol' Joe starts whining that he's just a private citizen and all these questions being asked of him are just mean.

This is a guy who has hired an agent and went on Larry King last night. Joe is starting to sound like a bit of a wuss who has let his celebrity get to his head.

And now we learn that apparently, in addition to owing over a thousand bucks in back taxes, a hospital is coming after Joe for $1100 they say he owes them too.

Report: McCain Campaign Not Counting on Colorado

CNN is reporting that heading into the final two weeks of the election, the McCain campaign is close to conceding that Iowa, New Mexico and Colorado are beyond their reach. Two top strategists for the McCain campaign told CNN that the situation in those three states is looking increasingly bleak for the Republican candidate. This means that the McCain campaign is looking at an Electoral College strategy that has virtually no room for error and depends heavily on a dramatic comeback in Pennsylvania.

One reason the McCain campaign believe Colorado is slipping away is that the Obama campaign and its allies have a far superior ground/turnout operation, that has been built up ever since the primaries.

CNN reports that McCain's strategy seems to depend on holding a handful of states that went for George Bush in 2004. However a number of these states are now rated as tossups by CNN; these include Florida, Ohio, North Carolina, Missouri and Nevada. This strategy also depends on keeping Virginia, which CNN now considers leaning Democratic, in the GOP column.

McCain campaign communications director Jill Hazelbaker disputed the sources' accounts.
"We see the race tightening both internally and in public polling," she said. "We are within striking distance in the key battleground states we need to win."

Campbell Brown of CNN Goes After McCain Campaign

Yesterday Campbell Brown went after the McCain Campaign for their handling of Sarah Palin. She actually called them sexist. I think the McCain's strategy of hiding Palin is beginning to backfire. We'll see if they change course.

Jack Cafferty is the lovable curmudgen who along time ago decided he had had enough and was just going to call out Bush, McCain and anyone else who trip his B.S. Meter.

Here Cafferty mocks John McCain on his stance on privatizing Social Security. This is an issues that Barak Obama should start pounding McCain on. If John McCain had had his way and this nation had privatized Social Security, millions of seniors would now be totally screwed and the economic mess of this nation would be even worse.
